My car has developed a rattle somewhere around the glovebox. It is worse when the heat is blowing.

Step1: Stir everything around in the glovebox. Rattle remains.

Step2: Remove everything from the glovebox. Rattle remains.

Step3: Remove glovebox.

We’ll see where we are at now.

Rattle behind the glovebox, worse when the heat is blowing...blend door or component of the blower motor? Or maybe something is stuck in your cabin filter, if you have one behind the glovebox?

Acorns in the heater box?

The filter is not directly behind the glovebox. It is behind the glovebox but on the other side of the firewall.

If it’s blower speed dependant, likely the bearing in that. They make a horrible racket, and in most newer cars(many in general?) i believe it’s mounted under the dash area, in the cabin.

Something stuck in the blower?

It is not blower speed dependent. It only rattles over bumps, but it is worse with the blower on.

Nah, it only rattles when the car is in motion and hitting bumps. If I hop in and fire it up I can crank the blower all the way up and there is no rattle.

Dead hooker bones in the blower.

Does it go away when the fan is turned off completely? In my DD ‘Accent, the heater blower motor is right behind the glovebox and makes a very quiet (you can barely hear it) squeak/rattle when on load speeds until it’s been on for awhile. I think bearings are going in the fan, but they are not bad enough to worry about yet.

If your blower motor is in the same place and the sound stops when the blower for the heater is off, maybe a similar problem?

The rattle happens only in motion and it happens whether the fan is on or not but it is worse if the fan is on.

Could be something attached to the blower if it is, indeed, located back there. Maybe the cover for your cabin filter has come off?

The cabin filter is on the other side of the firewall. I’m sure there is something floating around in there.
